The Yoga Project began January 2001 to create images promoting Hatha yoga and meditation.
Hatha yoga is the physical from of yoga which is most familiar to western culture. It is the Yoga of asanas (postures) whether gentle or invigorating. Hatha yoga, part of the eight limbs of yoga, leads the practitioner to the ultimate state of yoga; meditation and oneness with God or the Universal Spirit. Some people mistakenly associative the practice of yoga with Eastern Religions or Pagan worship. Yoga is not a religion. It is a philosophy that acknowledges and accepts the existence of a supreme being that nurtures and guides all things mental and physical.
In addition to the photographs, this website provides general information about yoga. Unlike most forms of physical activity, Hatha yoga asanas can be practiced by people of all ages and with many debilitating physical conditions that restrict them from performing other forms of physical activity. Many postures have variations and use props to assist with the posture. You don't have to be extremely flexible or able to twist yourself into a pretzel to benefit from yoga.
